Hello beautiful people! Happy Monday, and Welcome to February! This month I decided to step out of my comfort zone and dedicate the month of February to talking about godly relationships and godly characteristics of men and women. Enjoy!
"Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps not record of wrong. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails." 1 Corinthians 13:4-8
I love this passage of scripture because it not only shows what love does, but what love shouldn't do.
Love is patient. Patience is hard, am I right? I mean tolerating the person that drives you crazy or not becoming anxious about anything is very hard. One of my biggest struggles with patience definitely is in the category of singleness and dating. When one of my friends enter into a new relationship I find myself envying (which love doesn't do) that friend and not remembering that God is preparing me and my future spouse's heart for our life together. He is teaching us what we may not be able to learn without being right where we are RIGHT NOW and for the time being that is apart from each other.
"Love is patient, love is kind."
Without patience can you have true kindness? Kindness is an attitude. It is choosing others over yourself. Being completely considerate of the other person.
"It does not envy, boast, and it is not proud. It does not dishonor, self- seek, become easily angered, and keeps no record of wrong. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with truth."
Love does not become jealous because it knows that it's time is coming. Love celebrates with others even when you yourself have yet to see the blessings or promises from God yourself. Love doesn't boast. It is not proud or prideful. It doesn't seek self promotion. True love doesn't not think of self above others. It humbles and serves others. Love doesn't look down on others. Love says "all people are loved and valued."
"It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails."
This final part of these verses always lights a flicker of excitement in my soul. Why you might ask well because, love is to always protect. To keep one safe from harm. Many times people think it is the man's job to protect. NO, it is both the man and women's job to protect to keep one from harm and injury. I think the reason I like this part of these verses is because I want to know someone is there to protect and care for me. Then you have trust and hope. To trust in someone means you firmly believe in them. Relationships MUST be built on trust or they will go nowhere. To hope in someone means you expect nothing but the best for that one person. Don't we all want that in life. To know that someone chose you, trusts in you, and hopes in you. I know I do. And finally "love perseveres" Love doesn't give up at the first sign of hardship, disagreement, or difficulties. It fights, and fights, and forgives always. Love is worth the fight.
If you're anything like me you read these verses and think "Wow, I can't live up to that. I will never be good enough to love.... and on and on" But here's the best part. It's okay! You are not meant to be able to love perfectly. Why? Because if you could love perfectly then there would be no need for a perfect loving Father like Jesus. Jesus is the only person who will ever be able to meet all the dos in the verses above. Jesus is the perfect example of love. That's why it is so important to have a relationship centered around Jesus. Because your earthly love will fail, but with Jesus sin is forgiven and love is restored. His perfect love for you never fails. No matter what your earthly love does.
