Do you find yourself struggling when it comes to devotions? What do I study? Mornings are too early! I have no time. Let me tell you. It's not as hard as we make it! No seriously, its NOT! It quite simple in the end. I love studying the Bible. My favorite part of my day is watching the sun rise, with coffee and my Bible. Here are some of my favorite ways and tools to uses during my devotions.
3 of my favorite ways to study.
2. Be VERY discipline and consistent At first finding a time whether in the morning or in the evening will probably be hard. Did you know that it takes 42 days to make a habit and that if you miss one of those days your body starts over? I think that's were finding a friend to hold you accountable comes in or if you have a smart phone you can use the YouVersion Bible app (Android or Apple) to help you get start. This app has a verse of the day, tons and tons of devotion plans, AND they also let you set daily reminders to stop and read the plan you choose. It counts your streaks and if you miss a day you start over! This is been a BIG step in building the habit to start devotions in my own life.
3. Right now media is like the Christian Netflix! No I'm serious they have TONS of awesome Bible Videos with authors like Francis Chan, David Platt & so many more. This has been super helpful if you want to study a specific topic or book in the Bible. They have lots of different teachers! This is what I will be using when my small group meets! Remember that you don't have to spend hours and hours doing your devotions! Its not the amount of time you spend doing devotions. Spending more times in your Bible doesn't make you a better Christian. But once you begin you may find yourself wanting to spend more and more time in the word.
I also wanted to share with you my Bible study tools
I'd have to say that my favorite Bible study tool is my Bible. For my 16th birthday I was given a Journaling Bible (and it's currently on sale) and it is has been so fun when it comes to reading and taking notes on Scripture.
I'm not saying that you need a journaling Bible to have a quiet time but I am sharing that this has changed my quiet time. I love that I can take notes next to the passage of Scripture I am reading, and that I don't have to search through a notebook for the notes to that Scripture.
Pens & Highlighter
I really loving color coding scripture! This step is pretty basic find a highlighter and set of pens you like. But I wanted to share my favorite products with you.
The pens I use to take notes in my Bible, are Paper Mate Ink Gel Pens Gel pens are my favorite! Depending on how hard you push when you write they can bleed, but over all they are pretty great. Another set of pens I like if you you choose to do art are the Paper Mate Felt Pens (Assorted) Again, if you press to hard they will show a little bleeding it just depends on the thickness/type of paper you use.
You can definitely use have any pens you have! No pressure, just thought I'd share my favorites
For highlighters I use whatever I can find around the house. Usually that is Sharpie Slim Assorted Highlighters
Journal for Notes
I don't know about you but I love to take notes, there is just not always enough room in my journaling Bible so I need more space. I love to write down the things God is teaching me, doing in my life, dreams I have, prayer requests, & so much more! I usual just pick up a cheap yet cute notebook from my local target!
I am terrible when it comes to purchasing Bible studies because well after all I'm in high school and money can be tight. But, there are SO many free resources out there. My pintrest has several options, like I said above I sometimes use Right Now Media, but my favorite FREE resource is my fellow blogger friend Jenny's Little Faith Bible Plan. Back in December 2018 I shared why I love this plan! This month she is taking us all over the Bible.
Good Christian Books
There are WAY too many books I can recommend! I just recently read Present Over Perfect by Shauna Niequist
and Love Does by Bob Goff. Stay tuned cause I am about to do a big book haul!
I hope you find some encouragement when it comes to doing your daily quiet time, and that these tools help you fall in love with Jesus and your time with Him. Remember, that your quiet time does not have to be perfect. Give it your everything and simply love Jesus! 5 minutes is better than no time.
