Happy Monday! I am so excited to dig into today's topic godly women and their character!
First I thought today we were start in Proverbs 31 focusing on verses 10-31
"10 A wife of noble character who can find? She is far more worth than rubies. 11 Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value. 12 She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life. 13 She selects wool and flax and works with eager hands. 14 She is like the merchant ships, bringing in her food from afar. 15 She gets up while it is still night; she provides food for her family and portions to her servants. 16 She considers a field and buys it, out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. 17 She sets about her works vigorously; her arms are strong from her tasks. 18 She sees that her trading is profitable, and her lamp does not go out at night. 19 In her hands she holds the distaff and grasps the spindle with her fingers. 20 She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy. 21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household; for all of them are clothed in scarlet. 22 She makes coverings for her bed; she is clothed in fine linen and purple. 23 Her husband is respected at the city gate, where he takes his seat among the elders of the land. 24 She makes linen garments and sells them, and supplies the merchants with sashes. 25 She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come. 26 She speaks with wisdom and faithful instruction is on her tongue. 27 She watches over her affairs of her household and does not eat bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her. 29 Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. 30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fear the Lord is to be praised.
31 Honor her for all that her hands have done, and let her works bring her praise at the city gates."
Well, let me explain a little bit about the book of Proverbs. The book of Proverbs was written by Solomon (King David's son) as a new way to teach the ancient people using shorter sentences on several topics. Teaching by Proverb was a plain and easy taking little explanation. This chapter in particular is believed to be written/taught by the mother of King Lemuel. Teaching her son to not be tempted by the fleshly desires but to look for a women of godly characteristics and virtue.
Verses 10 through 31 gives us an example of what a women of virtue looks like. A virtuous women is a women of spirit; she is strong in wisdom, grace and fears God. She is modest, diligent, thrifty, dutiful to her husband, careful of her family, discreet in her discourse, and in the education of her children, and conscientious in her duty to God. A women of this who can find? Her price is far more precious than rubies. The more rare these type of women are the more they are valued. A virtuous women is industrious and her husband has full confidence in her. She never gives him a reason to become jealous. He trusts in her commitment to saving sex for marriage. Verses 12 through 24 explain how she goes about her work and livelihood. She is a women that works hard so that her husband is respected, and her family is clothed.
Verse 25 says, "She is clothed with strength and dignity; she can laugh at the days to come." A women of virtue clothes herself in strength, and honor. It brings her joy to serve others, her husband, and her family. And she serves well all the days of her life. She is not worried about the days to come but laughs or rejoices because she knows she has lived a purposeful life and her family is well taken care of. Verse 30 says," Charm is deceptive & beauty is fleeting but a women who fears the Lord is to be praised. " True beauty is found in the character of her heart and her worship and life lived for God.
1 Peter 3:3-4 says "3 Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. 4 Rather it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God's sight."
Ladies, your beauty does not come from outward adornment. It is that of the virtuous women gentle, and quiet in spirit. You are worth far more precious that rubies. SO DO NOT SETTLE!!
If you have yet to meet Mr, Right. Wait, God's timing is perfect and you never know what is on the other side of your patience. True love waits, in your waiting begin to pray and ask God to grow you in this season of waiting. Prepare your heart for where God is taking you next. Something I have found to be helpful in my waiting is to write letters to my future spouse sometimes they include something on my heart, something I can't wait to do with him, or a desire from my heart for our future together. I also created and am still adding to a list of characteristic I want in my future husband. I will be sharing this in the weeks to come! I challenge you to do the same. Some of the characteristics on my list are desires of my heart and some are characteristics I found in scripture. Let your heart and mind dream. Then PRAY those characteristics over your future husband. Also ladies, remember that the man you are dating not may not be your forever, but he is someone's forever. Treat him the way your pray someone is treating your future husband.
Men, a virtuous women in modest, diligent, thrifty, dutiful to her husband, careful of her family, discreet in everything she does, and conscience in her duty to God. Men just because women show you there body doesn't mean it's right and you should pursue her. Remember that if she is not your future spouse she is someone else's spouse. Leave her better than you found her! Next week we will be speaking to the godly characteristics on men! I am so excited for our guest blogger to share his thoughts with you! Anyways, men you are the leader in the relationship. One of the first things I included on my list of characteristic to look for in a man is that he leads me to God and also that he spends time with God personally and leads devotions together. Like I told the ladies, you too can create a list of characteristics for your future wife. Let you heart dream and also ask God to show you what to add. Then PRAY those characteristics over your future wife.
Ladies and Gents listen up!! Don't settle. God has a spouse waiting on the other side of your obedience and patience. Trust in his perfect timing and remember that true love waits. Trust love waits in timing, it waits to save sex for marriage, and it waits for the other to be fully ready. *This topic of waiting will be covered more in the weeks to come!*
